Finned Tube Heat Exchangers

FINNED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS

Finned tubes are the primary components of heat exchangers1. They consist of a series of tubes with fins added on the outside. The purpose of these fins is to increase the contact area between the tube and the outside fluid, facilitating heat exchange between the fluid inside the tube and the fluid outside. The fin strip is spirally wound onto the tube and welded to the tube along the spiral root1.

The Role of Heat Exchangers in Manufacturing

ADVANTAGES OF FINNED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS

  • Strong connection between fin and base tube, prevents loosening of fins because of heat stress, oxidization, corrosion, etc.
  • Use at very high temperatures possible.
  • Extruded or drawn fin tube , seamless with two longitudinal opposite fins.
  • Used in boiler wall constructions.
  • The advantage compared to standard boiler wall construction as no steel strip required only one weld necessary to connect 2 tubes.

FINNED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS APPLICATION

  1. The petroleum, chemical and petrochemical industries
  2. Natural gas treatment
  3. The steel industry: blast furnace and converter systems
  4. Power generation: steam turbine exhaust condensing
  5. Contact condensing with cooling of circulating condensate
  6. Fossil and nuclear power plants.
  7. Air conditioning (freon, ammonia, propane)
  8. Incineration of household refuse
  9. Compressor coolers, ect.
